Morocco Cash
Can I just ask what the deal is with money in Morocco? Sorry, not been since 2001. I haven't used travellers cheques in years but is it worth taking these rather than bringing Euros with you? Am not anticipating problems but have fond memories of pickpockets on trains etc last time.
I'm planning on taking some Euros with me, but assume you can just get Dirhams out the hole in the wall using Cirrus etc? Any particular cards to avoid taking etc? Cheers |
Cashpoints are the easiest and will dispense in Dirhams.
Tip: take the phone number of your credit/debit card issuer as (as has happened to me) the security system can sometimes see this as an 'unusual transaction' and will block it. You will have no option but call the bank and tell them where you are and that it is you. Pre-empting this with a call to the bank has no effect as they will tell you the security system is fully automated and it is for your protection. Euros will also be changed everywhere and are perceived to be the 'second' currency of N-Africa and not the US dollar which has fallen out of favour there. |
Forget Trav Cheques IMO. Take all the cards you have - 1 might work but that find out sooner then later - and plenty of euros.
Some exterior 24/7 bank ATMs eg: Rissani - will take in euro notes and dish out dirhams and a tinkle of change. Never seen an ATM like it here... Ch |
Money In Moroc
ATM's abound in the major cities like Rabat & Casa, but as anywhere be aware of who's around you & watching. You can also walk into a bank & exchange Euros!
Safe travels & smooth riding! |
ı've used only cash. banks and change offices are all over. i personally avoid using any kind of card to prevent my self from any kind of fraud.
