Morocco to Mauritania with 2wd van, possible?
I've read that (some times ago) the road from Dakhla to Nouadhibou was all asphalt except the very few last kilometers before border (sand). Does anibody know if NOW is possible to reach Nouadhibou with a very normal 2wd van (fiat ducato 2500TD) ?
thanks a lot for any info andrea |

Be prepared...
Please ensure that the plastic flowers are in clear view from the outside before attempting the crossing...

Carefully chosen equipment
Plastic flowers ae essential for a desert crossing, they save water.

border road paved?
is the last unpaved section across the morocco-mauritania border now asphalt as well? just curious...
thanks, karen |
last section
between Morocco and Mauritania is 2.4 miles of rock, compacted earth, gravel and sand all well churned up through rains and passing lorries etc.
The only bit of 'off road' now between Tangers and NKT- (Atlantic Route) Nothing to worry about- no need for knobblies- just lower your road tyre pressures and take it easy. |
fiat ducato !
I have driven a motorhome based on a fiat ducato 2.5 TD from scotland to spain & portugal a few times, and can say that they can eat the miles up for sure and are very reliable, but being front wheel drive with most of the wieght on the rear (in motorhome guise) that the traction off road is almost non exsistant. I have been stuck a few times on wet grass with naught but the slightest of gradients. But a good van though.
