Morocco-Mauritania Border Crossing
I just read it that crossing the Mor/Maur border is only possible in a convoy on Tuesdays and Fridays. Is this true or is this no longer the case?

No longer the case for many years now. More info here:

Thank you. I appreciate your help. Is it as easy the other way as well?

Anybody crossed Mauretania-Western Sahara border in the north of Mauretania? There is a road on the map, but I can't find any info about border crossing.
Mauretania is my destination and I don't wanna go back the same way to Morocco (near Atlantic) cart |
If you're talking about Bir Mogrein to Guelta Zemmour - its not a regular crossing as it passes over Polisario territory - the Mori's don't always allow it. Some tourists have tried it though - but some also got robbed on the Polisario section last year I believe.

They were kidnapped for a couple of days, probably by a breakaway faction of Polisario.

Around June I have crossed the boarder between Mauritania and Morocco and here are hthe latetest updates:
of the 485 km between Nkt and the Boarder post only 80 km is unpaved! though one should take care since dunes are constantly formed on the road!!! At the Mauritanian boarder we have passed with no problems (we showed our Carnet and everybody were happy...). The crossing between the countries, the so called landmine field is easily passed (there are planty of white pists that all are leading to the same point - the Moroccan boarder. Since May, there is a new and modern boarder post. The road to Agadir is all paved and there are enough petrol stations along the way (biggest distance between 2 stations 200 km!)so there is no reason to worry! Diesel prices are on the high and 1 litre is these days 3.42 Dirhams. |
