Morocco to Mauritania
 

Hi,

Is there anyone going down from Morocco to Mauritania in a few days time? I am now in Rabat riding alone heading south, so need some info about riding on the Western Sahara road.

Would appreciate it if someone could share the info such as places to stop/overnight, extra petrol to spare (my bike could ride up to 350 km per full tank), the local government do's and don't etc.

The road is good quality.
Have plenty of (fiche) printed and ready to hand out at checkpoints, saving you time presenting your passport .
Laayoune-many hotels. Fill up with petrol before heading south to Dakhla.
You can top-up at Boujdour. Make a habit of topping up every time you see a petrol station, it is also a chance to stretch your legs and have a look around and talking to locals.
Dakhla- many hotels. A cheap one is Camp Moussafir at the entrance of the town.
Camp Moussafir is a good option if you decide to stay for a while in Dakhla but when I was there November 2013 they had electricity on between 7-10 PM. Toilets are basic but clean and the atmosphere was relaxed, you will peobably meet quite few overlanders there than at expensive hotels. No Wifi. Another hotel is Regency Sahara, very nice, but expensive.
Nice cafes and good food also available everywhere, Cafe Venesia is good, with free Wifi.
Petrol available everywhere.

Nouadhibou- Residence Atlas is nice, clean and reasonably priced, free wifi. Pleine Lune cafe is the best place to have breakfast in Nouadhibou where you get tea, coffee, cakes, jam, butter and bread at top quality.
Petrol available.

Nouakchott- petrol available everywhere.
Here there are many hotels and a good place for visas.
A good hotel is Auberge Sahara where you can stay in a tent on the roof at a reasonable price or get a room for a higher price. Good Wifi. Auberge Minata is also good with large yard, but there was no Wifi when I was there.

Now if you head east to Aleg, Kiffa, Ayoun El Atrous then get your JERRYCAN ready as a precaution, as petrol is not available everywhere as one might think.

Yes Borneoman, be good to meet up. Expect to get to Mauri around 25 - 26th. I'll be the guy on the BMW XCountry with a hi viz helmet and too much luggage!

Not on a motorbike but on a bicycle this guy listed allot if the stops and fuel stations.

If anyone's crossing during Ramadan (2015 onwards) most are closed until the evening.

I used this guide when I rode over on a bicycle earlier this year.

I can recommend camping 7 Palava near St Louis when you reach Senegal.
