Motorcycle Carrier
I took my XR650R to Mauritania on the back of my Defender 110. I was asked for some pictures of the carrier, they are here:
http://website.lineone.net/~oxbow/main.htm The benefits of taking the bike were to 1) to get a regular dirt bike fix 2) ride the dunes 3) go for help/fuel/water if the car broke 4) travel alone without compromising the itinerary or seclusion of the desert on routes that would sensibly only be tackled with 2 or more vehicles (well, you have to be careful with 2 children in the back). It was awkward not being able to open the back door, but we packed accordingly. We also broke the rear window and 2 rear shocks, next time we will be wise to those possibilities. Aside from that it was excellent, we were airborne many times & the Defender chassis is still straight! |
Ian, Thanks for the pictures. You gave me a few ideas on how to better my own design.
