new US travel warning- Mali
 

I see a new travel warning to northern Mali posted by the US government on their site. Does anyone know of any recent activity in this area that would have prompted this? Am considering the area for a December trip, but I'd like a realistic opinion of the safety/security situation for a group of 2 fairly new, fairly nice vehicles.

Northern Mali has been dangerous for a couple of years - I dont know why the US has suddenly woken up to it but I'd avoid it whatever they say unless you have good local contacts.
