Niger to Chad crossing
As we plan to cross from Niger into Chad in january, I try to follow on the security situation. It seems that there is a bit of banditry going on in the south east near Lake Chad, and thus I'm looking at other options just in case.
How about crossing from Seguidine, north of Bilma, to Zouar (Chad)? It looks like there's a track, at least on some maps (and in Sahara Overland...) Any ideas? Erik Delphin www.dunia.no --------------------------------------------- ------------------ |
Hi Erik!
Seguedine - Zouar: There is/was indeed a track: But there are also plenty of mines on both sides of the border! If you can find a local Tubu-guide who dares to cross the border there... |
I recall reading 4-5 years ago that there was a mine accident involving Italian tourists along that track near the border, one woman was killed. I'm not sure which side of the border it was on. Reuters carried the news at the time, it was in '96 or '97.
