Permit for desert (green zone) in Tunisia.
Hi,
I'm planning a tour in Tunisia desert (south of Douz). It seems that a permit is required. Can somebody tell me about the paperwork and the cost for that permit? Thanks in advance. RR. |
The permit is required South of Ksar Ghilane. You can ride from Douz to Ksar Ghilane without a permit.
Check with Ali Béchir, Syndicat d'initiative of Tataouine BTWI don't know if you can reach El Borma these days... |
Thanks for your reply.
About el Borma, I don't know exactly, but I think it's not possible without escort. RR. |

The Tunisian border with Lybia is now sealed with trenches and berms. I don't think the army wants civilians nearby. El Borma could be accessed a few years ago without a guide, but you had to be in convoy and have a sat phone. http://www.gdnonline.com/gdnimages/2...0812544117.JPG |
Hey Roro
Use Google translator to understand this French ride report in a 4x4. Lotsa good details. ;-) Tataouine El Borma - Voyages et raids en 4X4 et Camping Car |
Thanks M. Lee, but ......I'm French:mchappy:
I believe this report is old one, since 5 ou 6 years (I don't remember), you can't go in these southern areas (I'm sure for "La Douane") without military escort. RR. |
Does any one has new updates for this thread? I think the situation did change with the war in Libya and the new government in Tunisia.

Just back from an organised tour from Douz to lake Houidhat Erreched and Ksar Ghilane.
I have been talking to a local tour guide about crossing the border at El Borma. He told me it was not a good idea. Not safe. This guy goes into Libya as well, but not for guiding tourists. He can only go there with his Libyan friends. He told me that when you go into Libya as a white guy, you'll get kidnapped for ransom money. |
