Petrol quality in Morocco...?? 950 KTM
Hi all .... just making the last few preparations for our September trip to Maroc (yeah I know it's early but I have a 4 week family hoiliday to get through in August first... Anyway, the thought struck me that I believe I can re-map the ignition curve on my Katoom to cater for low octane gas - will this be necessary?? What's the quality of the gas you can buy en-route from roadside sellers??
Thanks for any feedback. Greg |
no problemo
Hello,
Never had a problem finding gas in Morroco, not always unleaded ( by by beemer's catalitic exaust) but always good enouth to run the bike, actualy never had any side effect myself but heared of a few riders with not so much luck. Nothing major though, and if in doubht just get enouth to get to the next gas station, they are lots of them. No worry about this just plan ahead while there to make sure yo'll have option. Hi Gregorius,
I did a comprehensive tour of Morocco just last year with the same bike (LC8 2004). Did a lot of tracks on the Atlas, did some gravel down to Ouarzazate and even a bit of sand in Zagora. Never had any problem with the petrol and the factory setup. Had to use leaded petrol just a couple of times and ... well ... the bike seemed to like it ;-) Have fun, Mario |
Hi Mario...
Interested to hear you used a 950 for your trip, from where you said you've been it sounds like we will be in the same area. Any help with accommodation tracks / routes etc would be gratefully received. Grazie! Greg |
Yeah, petrol everywhere, and good quality too. I understand a few fill ups of leaded will not excessively harm your cat. Morocco is GREAT! If you're going down the dunes don't stay in Merzouga, its a hole. There are loads of cool little Kasbah style hotels right by Erg Chebbi, mine had a swimming pool!
For routes get Chris Scotts 'Sahara Overland' book. He's got loads. Alternatively just find a track and explore! Matt |
Petrol Quality Morocco
Hi,
Can't see any problem finding petrol stations in Morocco. Availability of unleaded is limited though. The quality of the Fuel definately seemed to drop south of Agadez - Marrakesh. Fuel above this was as good as any in Europe. have fun |
Hi all.... thanks for the replies.
It looks like I'll be ok then - the bike has Akras fitted so no cat to worry about... Cheers Greg |
Hi Gregorius,
mine has Akras too ;-) As for the tracks, search here http://trax.sahara.it/ a track named "Midelt-Tinerhir". I logged it during the trip with the LC8. It's really great fun if you don't mind crossing some shallow water and riding an occasionally narrow and rocky dirt road. BTW, if you DO mind you chose the wrong bike :-) Have fun and take care, Mario |
