Purchase Toyota Landcrusier
I read on the site that there is a firm in Holland that sells used United Nations'Toyota 4*4s. Had the name & address etc. I can't find it again.
Can anyone help? Either in Holland or anywhere else. Regards |
There must be hundreds kicking around Sarajevo. Relieving the UN of their toyotas was a national pastime about 7 years ago!
Sam. Sorry, not terribly helpful! |

Sahara Overland updates? I wouldn't go there!
I was going to mention this later but I may as well now. For my latest scam I am considering bringing in a 75-series 11 seater Troop Carrier or two from Central Australia to flog in the UK . In rust-free Alice one can buy mid 90s white ex-govt Troopies (4.2/six, non turbo) for about 25K AUD with twin tanks (180L), snork, roo bar and sometimes winch etc - all RHD (like UK). Govt vehicles must have any KNOW faults declared and some are lightly used. I have a local mate who knows the troopie auction scene and would sort out the shipping, etc Realistically you are looking at around 10-11 thousand pounds on the road in the UK after VAT + 4%. Troopies were never sold in the UK but are a big, tough overland bus (see the book) - round here you cant move for them. Anyone seriously interested, let me know. Thanks for the advice. I have been thinking of buying one here and shipping it over to Europe and driving it down to West Africa in Feb' 2003. Do you see any problems in driving a right hand vechile in Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania & Senegal, apart from the obvious, do the police have any problems etc? Look forward to your reply. Absolutely no problem with a right hand drive - possibly even an advantage in terms of being less interesting to thieves.
Just don't go near Vietnam with it!!! Sam. |
Hi Chris
I could be interested in an imported Troopie or otherwise - send me an email and I will get in touch. Cheers ------------------ ChrisC |
Hi Tubarao
if you decide to ship Oz to Europe let me know, as I am interested in doing similiar thanks ------------------ ChrisC |
Hi Chris, 75 or 78?
Just finishing up 12000 km in a 78 and cant say I can tell the difference. Chris S |
Hi Chris
what is the difference between a 75 and 78? Is the 78 the one with front coils? Are they both 4.2 (non-turbo) Diesel? Cheers ------------------ ChrisC |
Yes and yes is the answer. Pretty juicy it has to be said, the best I have managed is 7.8 kpl @ 100 kph, but mine has a high roof.

Can you please get in touch regarding the import of a TLC Troopie from Oz. either thru this site, or paul.j.crawford@consignia.com i am interested in trading in my 1990 3.9 efi Range Rover (on LPG) for a troopie. I want to get a vehicle prepped for a UK - SA trip in the next two years. Thanks in advance Paul |
Chris
Sounds an excellent idea. I'm looking for a 40 series - would you be interested in bringing one of these from Oz? Regards Mick Quote:

Chris
have you any more details about your impending scam of importing TLC Troopies from Oz? Are you going to go ahead with the plan, because there are a number of us out here that are interested! Best Regards Paul |
Glad to hear it.Paul, basically my Troopie mate in Alice can source them every month from the govt auctions but he, and much less me, cannot afford to buy or even store any in the hope of flogging them on.
So he would need around 10 thousand quid in advance per car to get it all moving (no real need for me to be involved so you save a bit). I dont think you can get more than 2 troopies in a container so multiples of 2 is best. I'm off in a week - email me off Sahara Ov for Geoff's email. I must say I went off troopies a bit after a month in Aust witn one. My 61 engine is so much nicer and a bit more economical. But it aint getting any younger and a nearly-new 78 is the only viable replacement (btw, dont aftermarket turbo a 75/78, I'm told). Chris S |
Chris,
many thanks for your propmpt reply. What is the best e-mail address for you in order to get your mates details? regards Paul |
