Rebels have a go in North Eastern Mali
Details of some recent action in north eastern Mali last week (4 May 07) are starting to filter through.
Rebels, from both Mali and Niger, apparently had a go at a gendarmerie post at Tin-Za, north of the town of Kidal some 3km from the Algerian border. A month ago rebels also hit the uraninium mine in N.Niger. IOL: Mali Tuareg rebels target police post |
I wonder if the report means Tin Zawatine NE of Kidal, on the Alg border but the writer got mortared before they finished the sentance.
Niger mine (Arlit, I presume) would be more of a worry for trans-Saharans. I heard from an Agadez operator it was a bad season in the Tenere just gone, probabaly due to the events at the beginning of the year there. Ch |
