Road to Ghat - Libia
With the help of some friends, I'm currently organising the Duvel Touareg Trail 2005, a raid/rally with 30 legendary 2CV's in a 7000 km long challenge from Brussels to Benin (via Tunesia, Libia, Algeria, Niger & Benin).
The guys at the Libian tourist board in Brussels pretend there's a tarmac road from Gadamesh to Ghat, but according to one of my team members, this is definitely NOT the case. Has anybody taken this road in the last couple of months. WHat's it like? Tarmac? If not, still feasable for 2CV's? |
Definately not tarmac and hard work for 2CVs at KM280 for about 24kms in the dunes - the rest will be easy. (route L2 in the book)
Last time we were there a poor old Saviem (down to 2WD) was going round and round trying to get out. Chris S |
Thanks Chris,
Very strange. They even invited me to go and check it out (paying flights, etc) Looks like they'll say and anything to bring the rally, and tourists in general, into Libia, but what's new ;-) PS: Did you include the photo of my 2CV in the new version of your book? If so, you still need to send me a copy (as promised in London at the RGS ;-) |
Is that the flooded one - great picture.
Sorry I hoped you'd forget like I did ;-) Is that Steenberg 30 etc? Ch |

Hey Gert. I presume you're the Gert from Brussels-Capetown? When does your Raid start? Still accepting entries? I'm fron Aalst btw, maybe we can have a Duvel one of these days. (After carnaval ...) |
It's me indeed, Fred :-)
