roadbike Marocco to Tunis: Roads?
For september I am planning to take my roadbike (CBR1000 of '87) on a loop from Marocco to Tunis through Mauritania, Mali and Algeria. And I am very curious to see whether it i possible.
Many questions have been answered through reading several posts and the overland site. But some remain. I'm looking for a route with a firm enough surface to support my bike, like ofcourse tarmac, but also dirtroads? Or is there a section which is not passable due to sand etc? Do I need a carnet for Algeria? It seems it is not needed for the other coutries. If someone has usefull remarks aso, feel free to inform me. Greetz, Patrick |
No Carnet for Algeria (but these days an expensive guide-in-a-car needed, border to border).
It is possible but you will fall off a lot on the sandy bits and may eventually damage yourself or the bike. Your CBR is old so if you dont mind destroying it, give it a go, but leave 2 months later - it wil be less hot and you will survive longer. Ch |
Isn't the border between Morocco and Algeria closed, so that you cannot get from Morocco to Tunis or back by land?
I thought the mandatory guide was for Libya, not Algeria. |
Border Morocco-Algeria is closed, completely.
You presently need a guide for both Algeria and Libya. Sam. |
