Sahara updates and Highway news

Richard Washington has contributed an S-File on the Trans Sahara Highway from Tam to El Meniaa (El Golea). Still well worth avoiding it seems. He'll be giving a fuller S-account of his recent Algeria trip shortly.

I have re-updated the following Algerian routes in the book:
A2 - Djanet - Tamanrasset (p.395)
A2a - Djanet - Erg Admer - Mt Tazat (alternative route to KM220 on Route A2)
A4 - Ideles - Tahifet - Tamanrasset (p.399).

And have updated or added the following new routes which will appear in the next edition of the book (or can be bought as print outs now).
A5 Hassi bel Guebbour - Ilizzi (470km)
A6 Ideles - Hassi bel Guebbour (710km)
A7 Tamanrasset - Highway - Ideles (224km)

Thanks for the updates. Where can we buy the print outs for the new routes?

Hi Pierre,
you can buy
A5 Hassi bel Guebbour - Illizi (470km)
A6 Ideles - Hassi bel Guebbour (710km)
for $5 each from me.
You can put it in my paypal@sahara-overland.com or send a banknote to:
Chris Scott
PO BOX 26945
London
SE21 8WR
England

I'll give you
A7 Tamanrasset - Highway - Ideles (224km)
for nothing as there is not much to it.

I'll be back with a couple more 700-km Algeria routes in April.

Chris,

Have you thought about putting them into electronic format, eg GARtrip, so that they can be uploaded into our GPS units?

(If anyone wants to start a debate on GPS software, suggest they start a new thread on that topic).

Hi Terry
What is "GARtrip"?
I am still researching mobile communications in the desert and would like to hear more.
PS How did the Discovery gearing match up?
All best

Not really as there are so few waypoints you can just watch the screen or key them in - and as you know you dont really need them out there.
All the waypoints of routes in the book as available as emails but only about 2 people have ever asked for them (I'm going to regret saying this...;-)
