Satellite Image Maps of Algeria 1:200.000
I have created some satellite maps using the Algeria 1:200.000 IGN Maps as template.
The resolution is 30m! Check out the page http://www.image-contrails.de/sat-map There they can be downloaded... including a Touratech QV Calibration File... Currently only 4 are "published" :-( Djanet, Feuille ?? I n Eker, Feuille NG-31-VI Ta n Mellelt, Feuille NG-32-XIII Tadoumet, Feuille NF-32-XV Cheers Uli |
Uli,
They are amazing - I was checking out the Djanet map - wow!! Sam |
Nice job Uli - just the one's I wanted too... let us know when you've done the whole set.

Excellent! Out of interest where did you get the satellite images from??

Chris S: Answer to your question: "let us know when you've done the whole set"
Well, it is a lot of work (each map takes about 3 hours) so I'll probably finish not to many ... Tom: Answer to your question: "where did you get the satellite images from" I'm working since 15 years in the field of remote sensing which means I just had to come across data like these ... :-) They are Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper data with originally 28.5m pixel resolution. The colors are not the natural ones instead infrared bands have been used so lithology (especially in desert regions) is more colorful. |
@ uli !
THX for the great job and publishing in this forum !! Greetings HANNES |
now this is perfect. On the Djanet map there can be seen even the read from the airport to the oasis. great job. Could you do the same map for mt. Tahat area ? regards. Bart. |
I've tried putting the Djanet one into OziExplorer, but it just crashes! Any ideas??!!

Sam, I think the reason is not the satellite map as it is pure .jpeg. One thing I believe could be a problem is that the 3MB .jpeg's expand when loaded in to a display program to 62MB in memory. Maybe your memory is low or OziExplorer can not handle files of this size although I do not think this is the reason.

I haven't yet checked, but OziExplorer does not accept jpegs with certain colour/size formats. I think this could be the problem, solved, I reckon, by putting into CorelDraw and making the image more basic (seems a shame though!!)

@ SAM !
It´s time to change to TTQV 2.5 ! I´m sure that this is the far best GPS moving map software , with the most features in the program and the best support of ALL softwares that ever run on my PC. Work with it since three years - this winter for 8000 km online tracksaving through Algeria without missing not one point and changing very often betweens several maps from different scales. Gidday UT, I notice that you've over the years collected data from remote sensing is there an off-chance that some of the data includes any Australian Deserts?

because of high demand :-) i have put some more satellite-maps of Algeria on www.image-contrails.de/sat-map ...

Uli,
You're a star! One question please, I'm about to buy the Touratech-QV software (hope to get it sooner than some poster have suggested). Will it be self evident from the software manual how to calibrate you maps with their software? ------------------ Roman (UK) www.polandrover.com |
Hi,
I just tried to calibrate the huge Djanet map on my PC with OZIExplorer V3.90.3a - no problems at all. As UT said the jpg images will use a very huge amount of RAM, possibly too much for some computers, so I always convert jpg maps to PNG-256 colors, which uses more space on disk but is faster to load and uses only a 1/3 of RAM. I did not tried to import the QV calibration file into OZI, may be that operation could be responsible for the crashing ozi. Bye, Yves http://www.redjem.ch |
