Senegal Rosso or Maka Diama
Am planning on giving the LR a rest this winter and am entering the Plymouth-Dakar in a 2CV.
I am looking at the most hassle free route into Senegal. Looking at the lonely planet guide it mentions that one could enter via a place called Maka Diama which is accessed by entering Rosso and heading west along the river on a sandy track for 97 km to Maka Diama. From here its just a small bribe and a short hop over the river and cool beers within a short time. Any experience of this? Thanks Ashley |
A bit old but with lots of information:

Hi - I'am also doing the Dakar Challenge for a change this year (group 3 - car TBA - Team Rust-ic Reivers). Personally, I'd do anything to give Rosso a miss - it's pretty hassle-ridden. I did try to take the sandy track to Maka Diama before (on an XR600) but didn't have enough fuel and the petrol pump at Rosso mysteriously 'broke down' just as I tried to get more.
Anyway, from what I hear it's a much nicer option - far fewer touts. Cheers -Andy |
