shipping back to UK

Hi, we're travelling to Ethiopia via Tunisia, Libya and Egypt in mid -October in a D110. We have 6 months to play with and are still umming and ahhhing about whether to drive or ship back.
Does anyone have any experience of the ease and expense of shipping back to the UK from Sudan, Dhijbouti or Kenya?
It'd also be interesting to know what other people would do given the choice

If I was going to ship out of those three options I would ship from Mombassa - there weren't lots of options from Port Sudan / Suakin although probably something available going up the Suez. Would personally drive back, if you have time I would go into Djibouti and then Eretrea which looks great, we missed it - went sudan / ethiopia / kenya and wish now we had done it. Then into Sudan, Suakin to Saudi on 24 hour ferry - three day transit visa through Saudi to Jordan, Syria, can drive from Turkey to Uk in a solid week if need to get back that quickly. Need Jordan visa to get Saudi transit visa, need saudi transit visa to get ferry ticket. Also need Syrian visa as apparently can't get in Jordan and won't have time in Saudi (only three days to transit). From Ethiopia, think could be back in Uk within 4 - 5 weeks with plenty of time in Eretrea, Jordan / Syria and some solid driving in between. All possible, met other travellers doing it.

I'd drive it. From where you would arrive in Saudi, I think you might get a seven day transit visa. Still not enough time to get Syrian visa though, as the distances in Saudi are vast! I drove through from the UAE to Jordan and Syria two years ago and covered roughly 2,000 km or so each way just crossing Saudi!

Lots to see in Jordan, Syria and Turkey though. Do it.

Thanks for that, (I posted b4 as Nailah) I think we'll take the driving route if the landie will cope! and we can figure out the visas.
