Situation in Niger, AIR

I am new to this forum and I hope that you can help me with some information.

Does someone know about the situation of 1) security and 2) famine in Niger, Tamgak region (east of Iferouane)?

I would do there a 2 week cameltrek.

Security is same as it has been for years - ie: always slight risk in the Aïr - last Aïr robbery in Dec 04 but they usually pick on cars.

I understand the worst of the famine (or food distribution) is in the south, not Agadez/Aïr.

East Aïr borders are a great location for camelling and local operators are ready to go (see link), though possibly not north of Iferouane.
