Tangier-Dakar again
Right now I'm traveling down south through Spain and will be in Tangier in approximately two weeks. I'd like to take the overland route to Dakar, but I have no vehicle. Where are the places that people depart from? Should I just head south, until I can't anymore on my own and hope I meet up with someone? What is the general etiquette for hitching a ride?
Thanks, d |
I am not sure of the etiquette but I do know that overlanders traditionally gather in Agadir proir to taking the atlantic route
Good luck Charlie |
Well as for etiquette,
simple.... smile, pay your share, say thanks and understand the benefits of cold beer. easy isn't it. The campsite in Marrakech (15ks out on the Casablanca road) would be a good spot. Also the Mauri embassy in Casablanca. good luck |
The main campsites is your safest bet. Where you would easily spot the overland vehicles, and judge for yourself whether they have space/capacity for a hitcher.
There are many, but the ones that we found popular were: Rabat (Salé beach) Casablanca (the downtown camping, in a compound) Marrakech (as mentioned above, just north of the city) Dahkla (Just before the city limits. This might not be as popular anymore, since the convoy procedures are scrapped.) If you hang around at these campings, you're 100% sure to get a lift if you're a decent guy/girl, and prove to be resourceful in some way (e.g. can cook, good mechanic, speak french/arabic)... Jan |
