Tarmac in Morocco?
I'm planning a trip to Morocco this September. Does anyone know how much tarmacing has been done on the seven routes in Chris Scott's Sahara Overland book?
So far I have been told that M4, M5, M6 and M7 are still all dirt. Does anyone know different? Thanks. Richard Virr. XR400R |
Hi,
Just got back from Morocco. Working out the route we took a the moment, will post soon about the conditions of the route (some of Chris' book too) and about tarmac not on Michelin map. Peter |
I was there last year, and did several of the routes in the Sahara Overland book. As far as I could tell it was all still dirt and desert. I don't think you should worry unduely about a lack of off-road riding in Morocco!

Hi RV,
I'm going to Maroc September aswell via France and Spain - on a Dominator so looking for some light off road stuff. Planning to spend about a month there exploring the Atlas and maybe further south. Wanna meet up? Cheers, Steve |
Hey RV and Stevie, I'm also heading to Morocco but in early October - will you guys still be there?

I'm planning to visit Maroc around this time to update and radically increase new desert routes right from the east, for edition II.

As we don't live too far apart why don't we meet for a beer before the trip. I'll send you both an email. Chris - You're in the area too but I don't have an email address for you. And I know you're always very busy. If you want to meet up, my email is virrrichard@hotmail.com. If not, I'll see you at the Horizons get-together in Derbyshire later this month if you're going. All the best. Richard. |
Hi Barry, Richard, Chris,
As I can't make it to Slough in the coming weeks, I'll be at the reunion too camping over so we should meet up and talk over Maroc plans - would be good to have a riding partner for some of the trip!. You'll have to wear name badges so I know who you are though!! See you later guys, Steve |
We did some of the routes during April this year and found that on route M3 the section from Taliouine southwards to the junction with a "small building and big stone block" where the route then turns eastwards had been, and was still being surfaced. The rest of the route eastward as far as Akka Irhen was still piste but near the villages further east a lot of road making was under way there too. We also did M4 - all unsurfaced. Most of M5 except the section between Tafenna and Lac Maider which we missed out on - all unsurfaced.
