Through the Sahara for the first time....
I am planning a trip through the Sahara for the first time, and I am in need of advice of what's necessary to bring along... I know there is probably plenty, but what would be the basics, and what's a good idea as extras so that there is still enough room for 2 people.... http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif I will probably be driving a station wagon along the Atlantic Route to Senegal, or maybe a 4WD to Mali, not sure yet...
Any advice would be apreciated!!! Vemund ------------------ -42- ;) you know... |
You may find Sahara Overland a useful book if your English is OK.

Chris, you are never leave a chance to self promotion now isn't it ;-)
But he is right though, buy the book, its good. And for another bit of self promotion... There are a couple of other books I used that you can find on my website... Crossing Africa :: The ultimate African overland journey on a Yamaha XT600Z / XT 600 Tenere (3AJ) there are links will take you straight to my preps... and books ------------------ CU under the Cu Frank http://www.crossing-africa.com .:. The Ultimate Travel on a Yamaha XT600Z |
Thanks for the info on books!!!! I was thinking of buying the "Sahara Overland" already, I heard it's among the best on the subject, and since I will be driving a car the best of all excellent books adviced to me!!! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif
One more question... How much can I expect to be able to sell the car for (either a station wagon or 4WD pickup/landrover) if it's in moderately good condition? ------------------ -42- ;) you know... |
Chris, isn't there a new edition in the pipeline? I'm holding out for that. I made that mistake with the Bradt book. One of the dangers with Africa (not exclusively) is that things can change so quickly some info is out of date the moment it's written; which is of course a brilliant excuse to head off to research the next edition http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif
Happy trails Luke |
I would say the new edition wont be out before Jan 2004 - look hopw long its taken to get the German version out!...
