To Libya from the South
 

Planning a trip from Jhb in SA via East Africa, Ethiopia, Sudan and hoping to get into Libya, our tour destination, either from the Sudan, or Chad. I have heard that tourist entry from the south not possible, BUT if the papers could be obtained anyone with experience on these two approaches. Would like to leave SA early in 2003, take 3 -4 months as am not yet a professional traveller! Great bulletin board.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to enter Libya (certainly with a vehicle) from the south. Have asked whilst leaving to Algeria - if nothing else, they don't have any on the infrastructure (temp import, number plates, insurance etc.).

For Europeans it is only possible to enter Libya from Ras Ajdir (Tunisia) or Solum (Egypt). If you get a visa as a single travelling car!?!? You will probably need a local travel agency to get an invitation for the visa and so on....
