Tombouctou
 

Hi. Does anyonen have recent experience of Tombouctou? I am going there in Feb 05 for a photographic expedition and would be interested in receiving info/recommends on hotels/travel etc.

Planned arrival circa 2 Feb 05 and staying for 4/5 nights

I have been in Tombouctou 2 months ago with my own car. It's very easy to get there by road. It's a two day drive from Bamako, all the way tarmac only the last part you take a small gravel road from Douentza and just before you reach Tombouctou you take a (brand new?) ferry.

I stayed with some locals and put my tent on the roof of the house, that was for free.

The internet there is sponsored by Swisscom and is remarkably fast.(show your studentcard)
