Travel north from Agadez to Algeria and Europe in June?
Dear All,
I'm currently thinking of this (via the Air mountains) as a return route home to Europe(currently in Guinea Conakry)and want to know if it is possible, and if so what do I need, apart from my trusty Landrover. Looking at posts here the main issues seem to be re; Visas; can I get them out of Europe and if so would anyone recommend a particular embassy in W Africa (Bamako, Ouaga, Accra, Niamey, Togo, Benin?) Guides; Are they essential, or useful, either for Algeria or Niger? Does anyone have any recommendations? Costs; What should I be thinking of for a 3 week trip? Travel partners; I'll be on my lonesome by this point and thus would like to hitch up with another car if possible, anyone going my way, or does anyone have any advice of good places to stop en route where other travellers might rest up? Places of interest; Any advise of where I really should go on this route? Security; What's news. Oh, and I think I know that it will be very hot! Thanks alot, Paul |
Hi Paul, the mandatory and expensive highway escort across Algeria (and in the Aïr mts) will make it less of a fun tour of interesting places than you may have hoped. All in all, for a quick way back you will find the Atlantic route less hassle.
Visas can be picked up from the capitals of neighbouring countries. More info at www.sahara-overland.com or search this forum Chris S |
I'd also question where you're going to get a Niger visa. I've heard of a Niger embassy in Bamako, but never found it. Possibly one in Benin. Also heard of a Brit showing up at the Niger border and claiming that Brits don't need visas. They let him in.
Got a Mali visa in Conakry a couple of years back. |
