travelling north through Mauritania

We are currently planning to travel from Sierra Leone, up to Western Sahara/Morroco, including via Mauritania. Can anyone advise on the security aspects and feasiblity of current overland travel given the recent political changes?

Much appreciated

We travelled up from Mali in our own vehicle in December - no problems at all. Lots of police and customs will stop you on entry to towns in Mauri and W. sahara but just give them a fiche (photocopy back page of passport) and they are fine. Very polite and friendly on the whole. Occasional request for a cadeau is easily deflected with a smile and a shrug. Beware of speed cams in w. Sahara and Morocco - be very careful of 60 signs! Also be very careful of animals on the road in Mauri and don't drive after dark - we did a few times and it isn't worth the frayed nerves!!!
