Tuareg Rebellion Spreading into Mali

Just to let everyone that according to Gara, a Basque newspaper, the Tuareg rebellion seems to be spreading into Mali: On Wednesday 15th of Sep 07 the Tuareg rebel Ibrahim Ag Bahanga grounded an American military plane bringing supplies to Malian troops in Nothern Mali and yesterday Friday 14th of Sep his commandos attacked Malian troops stationed in Tin Zauatene in the Algerian border.

I am afraid that as it has been mentioned before in this forum the ever increasing American involvement in the Sahara will make matters in the area worse.

Fresh Tuareg Attacks in Tin Zauatine (Mali)

Hi everyone,

Further to my earlier report of fresh Tuareg attacks in Tin Zauatine in the border between Mali & Algeria in which apparently a US military plane was grounded (following the news reported in a Basque newspaper), I have found similar reports in other press around the world:

Cam,
They were air dropping foood.....not arms...such anti-American sentiment is getting trite...and trust me, i don't think non-American's could be more annoyed with our gov't that Americans at this point.

"They were air dropping foood.....not arms"

That of course is the official line. I too still believe that Iraq had WMD's in 2003. To paraphrase Noam Chomky ' the governments of other countries do what they are told by the USA, else they won't be the government for long'.

let's not go there

Fwiw the US military have been in the north Sahel since 2003, 'advising', 'training' and maybe even 'dropping food', but so far no one's really noticed.
See: Trans-Sahara Counterterrorism Initiative [TSCTI] for example.
All very interesting and maybe sinister but let's not go yankie bashing here.
