Tunisia-Algeria-Morocco
Anyone up for a roundtrip somewhere next year from Marseille, sailing to Tunisia, crossing over to Algeria, and back via Morocco ?
|
Nice idea but the Alg-Maroc border has been closed for years and parts of the northeast of Alg are the least safe part of that country.
You could go Genoa-Tunis (cheaper), then stay below the NE of Alg and out through Oran/Ghaz to Spain. You'd need an escort of course. Ch |
Hi Chris, thanks for your thoughts.
For what parts would we need an escort ? |
Algeria @ around €150/day. That's why everyone goes to Morocco...

That just saved me some time..
I have just been planning a trip from the U.K down to Morocco Dakhla via France & Spain for early next year and thought it would be nice to cut across Algeria to Tunisia Tunis and get a ferry to Sicily and ride back up through Italy.. :scooter:
After looking at the foreign office website, I thought its time to consult "THE HUBB".. I also couldn't work out why google kept redirecting the map up to Spain even though I could see a road..:oops2:.. Well I'm guessing that is all answered now.. its looking like a load of long ferry trips to do what should have been some great riding as there are no direct services to Sicily from Morocco or Spain..:( |
It would be a great loop for sure - no one likes to go back the same way. There have been more reports of a rapprochement and 'union' between Alg and Mk in the last day or so. No mention of the border issue, but you'd think that must be at the nub of it.

For the invincable
I have found a ferry crossing from Spain to Algeria..
I am still not sure about the advice from the foreign office for Algeria but if you believed all of it, you would never leave the country..:2guns::confused1: A bit more research is needed on my part before I start booking things up..:helpsmilie: Anyway the crossing is Almeria-Ghazaouet and it looks like you can book with Direct ferries.co.uk and is shown as 174 euros one way with motorcycle..its an 8hr trip..:rolleyes2: |
Algeria to Morocco
Chris is right, Alg-Morocco border is closed. You will need to leave/enter via Tunisia or Ferry from Spain or France.

We have a very detailed write-up with current costs on our blog Riding2up Blog and would be happy to answer any questions.beer The expense of Algeria is off putting but it is fantastic. However keep checking this space regularly as there is word that the south is closed to tourism since 1st Dec.:( |
