Tunisia / Algeria / Niger Nov/Dec 2005 anyone?
Anyone thinking of going this way at the end of 2005 been looking at doing this route for a number of years but will need to travel with others to cover costs of guide through Algeria. Will be traveling on R80G/S. Have already ridden this bike to Capetown via east coast route and have worked in West/Central Africa for a few years so have a little experience. If anyone has done this route recently I would like to hear from you. Regards Chris

ok 2nd run to answer you....
did this route jan feb 2003. tunisia hassi bel guebour ilizi djanet tam agadez. we were 3 motorcycles untill tam and 2 from tam to agadez-zinder. only took a guide beetween djanet and tam cause it was our first trip in the desert... we did not regret.... think its easy to find people on place to ride with across too long distances if you have enough time. a advice:never to be pressed!! after zinder i continued alone across burkina mali mauritanie marocco and came back to toulouse.. i'm looking for one or two old good adress in djanet and tam and came back on the forum. seeyou rom |
Hi roman, i'd be glad if you can post those contacts.
we'll be leaving for the same route late september this year (see the whole itinerary here: http://www.southing.com/westafrica/i.../itinerary.htm ) cheers |
Hello,
I am riding through Morroco Mali Sengal Mauratania Niger Chad and Cameroon starting in September or October. I would like to ride with some people down through this section if anyone wants to join me. Josh www.ridingtheglobe.com |
Just back from Tunisia-Benin. Going again in November.
All perfectly straight forward, but the requirement for a guide in Algeria could make things expensive... Email me if you have specifics. Sam. |
Hi, just to bring this topic back to the top, 2 of us now just about set to depart early Nov 2005 and still looking for others to help share the cost of what has to be said is an expensive guide through Algeria, any one out there interested in this route or about to go that way. Regards Chris

How expensive is expensive? - would be handy to know, and with who.

Hi, quoted 150.00 euros per day to cover costs of guide, driver & 4 x 4 minimum of 16 days, 8 days border to border and then 8 days for the guide to get back to pick up point, this was with an agency based in Tam run by a Swiss woman called Claudia. Don't have contact info on me at the moment. If guide travels in own vehicle its a lot cheaper.

Hi Ya Chris
Heading down through Europe at the mo, plan to go through Tunisia and Libya or Algeria in October - ish. On a KTM 640 adventure, done London to Capetown 2001/2002 (11months) and London to Ghana 1999 (3months). Would love a travel partner. Andy Quote:

150.00 euros per day for 16 days is a pack of cash so I hope you get a good group together. Its a shame to have to rush through Alg
Try the other guy in In Salah - you can write in English - tell him I recommended you. He is organising our trip this Nov (I hope!). Tarahist are famously expensive as they have a nice lodge to run. Ch |
Hi Andy, we are setting of Nov 7th so looks like you'll be ahead of us, though if we can find more people for Algeria it still looks possible but not at the price we have been quoted.
Chris do you have contact details for the guy in In Salah. I agree it would be a shame to rush Algeria so at the prices I've been quoted I would rather miss it all together and go down the west coast route and then travel around west Africa a bit. Regards Chris |
Hi Andy
I'm going to be along with ChrisK on this one (Hi Chris) and I will be on a 640 Adventure. So I am just wondering if you have had any problems with yours and have any advice on spares, tricks etc. that you could tell me. Thanks Richard |
