Visa for Mauritania refused due to no Carnet

Dear All,

I have sent my passport off to the Mauritanian Embassy in Paris.

They then wanted a letter stating I was driving through Mauritania; which I sent.

They have comeback today asking for the Carnet details.

I don't have a Carnet.

Any advice...help!

Due to leave a week on Monday.

Fergus

Better get a Carnet quickly in that case.

How long until you are planning on arriving at the Mauritanian border?
Is the vehicle your own, in your name?

You could try to argue that the Automobile Authority has not yet issued the Carnet and the CPD number is pending...

Then I would make haste to get a Carnet for real as it is obligatory for Mauritania.

Forget the carnet - get your visa in Rabat like everyone else!
Details here: Sahara Overland ~ Mauritania visa

Mori in Paris have always been awkward iirc.

Ch

PS, loads of checkpoints along the roads in Mori to reassure travellers, I have heard from 2 sources in the last week.
You may need dozens of fiches (pre printed passport details, saves time at CPs).
See other recent post or adapt this one http://www.morocco-overland.com/fiche.doc

mauri visa

hi
not sure whether this is of use,but why not get visa at the boarder, the last few time's i've been along the atlantic route i,ve got a 3 day vise, without a carnet, last time the mainman gave me a bollickin in french, for not having a carnet, but as i do'nt speak french it was water of a ducks back.i think it was because one car i had had not been stamped out of the country, but that was there fault in NARA.:oops2:

The guys at the border were just pocketing the visa cash, so you can't get one there anymore.

Chris and Tim are right. Get a visa in Rabat, it takes 24 hours and it is without any problems. The visa is no longer given at the border and you will be turned back if you try - saw two people having to go back to Rabat because of it.

Carnet is worth having but with a little hassle and few euros you can get a temporary import permit.

There are many checkpoints both in the Western Sahara in Morocco and in Mauritania so it is worth having a photocopies of your passport with your profession, car details - VIN number and registration along with make and model. Having these forms with you will save you loads of time.

Good luck ....
