WWII fighter plane found in Western Desert
Possibly down in the Gilf? Actually about 50km west of Farafra.

Wow... Fantastic find..
However, Knowing Egyptian Bureaucracy and the 'entrepreneur-ism' of the locals first hand, I doubt there will be a nut or bolt left of the crash site within a few weeks. |
Apparently found somewhere in Al Wadi al Jadid in Feb 2012.

Like something from a Clive Cussler novel.

It was actually found over a month ago, by an oil exploration team somewhere in the northern part of the desert (from published photos it is clearly in limestone country). Initially it was very sensibly kept confidential, but then someone decided it is a great idea to inform the press and authorities. From what I've heared, the vultures have picked it clean within days. The published photos show the condtion of the wreck at the time of discovery.
