Continental Divide Ride
 

Hello fellow HUer’s. I’m planning my big summer ride and the Continental Divide is looking good. I want to do a North to South ride. Take around 10-14 days.
I’m a very experienced rider. 37 years old with 30 years riding under the belt.
I like to camp every few days, but mostly like to get a hotel if possible.
(I do like a cold beer, hot shower and soft bed at the end of a long days ride).
I’m a quick rider but will be taking my time to enjoy the ride. Thinking late Aug.
Anyone out there thinking the same thing?

Do u like to hike? Or at least have 20-50$ you can live with out?

If so to either of the above I would drop Jonathan Ley a line and a “donation” for his CDT maps. This is a hiking route not a biking route. BUT they are the same in many areas. AND they have a lot more information. (Water, paragraphs, old ruins, etc)

Continental Divide Route
 

Riding the CDR on August 15, 2008. Will take 10 to 14 days. Have maps GPS and roll chart north to south. Non- Camper. I also like a soft bed and a beer at the end of the day. What do you think? contact me direct at Blamr4@comcast.net

Continental divide ride
 

I have taken this route from Eureka on the Canadian border to the Denver area. You might want to add a few more days in. You do not say what you are riding but I did it on a honda XR650L and it was a hoot. I did it alone and I would not recommend it alone as some areas are very hard to find the way. I would consider taking it from Denver south if that fits into your plans. You can drop me a email direct at ssa2@yahoo.com

I went in July....solo....was a great run...took 6 days Border to Buena Vista...

Have a look at Clement Salvador's comments about the route being the best in NA or Doug Hackney's or Luv2Lean's reports (links on the above page)

Here's the link to the Adventure Cycling Association who pioneered the bike route. Mike McCoy's book provides most of the needed info.

Last Summer (08) my son and I rode the CDR. We started at the North end and travelled South. We had two weeks of time available and that included driving out from St. Paul, MN. So in reality we only had about 10 days on the trail.

We only travelled on the trail from Canada to Pinedale WY. which is about half of the total distance of the CDR. That probably seems like we didn't get very far. And that is true compared with other riders I've talked with. While we were on the trail we drove slow, soaked up all the beauty we could, stopped often, took hundreds of pictures and in general had a very relaxing and enjoyable time.

From my perspective, trying to do entire CDR in two weeks means that you'll need to be travelling pretty fast and not stopping very often. I'm sure it is a wonderful trip either way.

Because we took about 500 pictures I have been able to re-live that trip numerous times over this past long, cold winter.
