Glacier National Park and Yellowstone
Hi,
I'm over to the US in August and I was going to buy a bike in Seattle and ride across the country to Washington DC, including Glacier National Park and Yellowstone. I was wondering what the road conditions were like in those parks around the end of August, I heard it can snow and is there much chance of ice? Thanks |
Snow is unlikely, although possible. There's little chance of ice, and if any did occur it would vanish pretty quickly. I've seen snow in both places just two weeks later in mid-September, so keep your ear to the ground.
Be aware that late August is still high season. Campgrounds (in particular) along with other accommodation can be hard to find in the national parks. Hope that helps. Mark |
Thanks Mark.

In August your biggest problem will be excessive heat rather than cold. At some point in your trip temps will hit 100F. Isn't that in the upper 30's C? By the way look at a map. Riding around Northern Lake Superior (in Canada) is a unforgettable motorcycle ride. Dave

Plan your trip to be in the parks during the day and then find a place to stay after you leave the parks. Be sure and check out "bear tooth pass" on the east side of yellowstone.
I happen to live midway between the parks and have to put up with twisty roads, wide open spaces and multiple wildlife sightings on a daily basis. Earlier in the year on a trip to yellowstone we say eagles, a wolf, bear, elk, and numerous buffalo all in their natural setting just doing their thing. |
Thanks
Thanks for the tips I'll have to try and get up to lake superior looks nice.
Seems like you've got a pretty tough life Bill |
