Take I-10 east from Houston to Lafayette, get off I-10 and pick up Hwy 90 east towards Morgan City -trust me on this as it will be a much better ride than staying on I-10 going through Baton Rouge.

Stay on Hwy 90 east from Lafayette past Morgan City, Boutte, Marrero, you will eventually cross the Mississippi River at New Orleans on Hwy 90.

When you cross the river you will see I-10 east to Slidell, La -take it.

Stay on I-10 east across Lake Ponchatrain to I-59 north

I-59 goes through Hattiesburg, Laurel, Meridian MS crossing into Alabama towards Birmingham.

Take I-459 south of Birmingham, it's a ring road and will save you PIA driving through Birmingham, eventually it hooks up with I-59 north again

Stay on I-59 north towards Gadsden, Fort Payne to Chattanooga.

Chattanooga to Knoxville to Bristol, TN/VA there you will be on I-81 north

Stay on I-81 north all through VA, WVA, MD into Harrisburg, PA keep going towards Scranton.

In Scranton pick up I-84 to Newburgh, NY where you want to get on the New York thruway north towards Albany, also called I-87 north.

Take I-787 to Troy NY, and then take RT. 7 to Vermont, from this point on plan the ride you want through Vermont and New Hampshire to Maine, there are so many option, and all of them good as you are now in the Mountains.

I don't know where you're going in Maine, but have fun.

If you have time, try to work in the Natchez Trace, backroads in Tennessee or Kentucky, find slow twisty black line roads up through Appalacia(?).Try to avoid big cities, little fun riding through or around those. I have never been on an Interstate that was adv riding.
