Hi! I want to enter from México to USA by land, how can I do to buy the bike insurance? Can I buy it in the border?

Cost for me is about 330 dollars for a year plus a 60 dollar broker fee for Fernet. I only got third party liabilty with bodily 250/500 and property 100 as the bike isn't worth anything really. I asked her if it was no problem using a friends adress and she confirmed that it was not a problem and that I was insured in all 50 states and Canada. So hopefully it is all legal this way. |

In Canada, hardly anyone gets less than a million cover (and many get 2 or 3 mill), as it also covers buildings, fires you cause that burn down a city clock, etc... The bodily injury, same thing, especially for the USA as it's easy to hit a million in hospital bills. Canadians have a better medical system that covers anyone that wants to be, so not as big an issue. All unlikely of course, but that's what insurance is all about. Personally I ALWAYS ask "how much for 'more' cover/etc?" Sometimes it's a pittance and worth doing. |

Good news about the insurance for the US being sorted out, just waiting for the Canadian cover then I can get booked up for our trip to the US and Canada this summer.
I will be pulling a small trailer behind the bike and here in UK you are restricted to lower speeds when pulling a trailer, I was wondering if the same thing applies in Canada or can you ride at the same speed as when riding without the trailer? |

I was reading trough most of this text within the last days and asked some insurances for a policy. Unfortunately did't I get any response yet. My motorbike is in the States (New Mexiko) - I crossed the border from Mexiko and there was no customs paper nothing at the border. Because of some family problems I went home and I just came back a few days ago. No I would like to travel for +- 2-3 months and of course need an insurance. It's german registered motorbike. KTM1190. Apart from the missing paperwork everything is good... I will keep on searching for possibilities - but in case there is an agent around that can help me out would be more then welcome. I got a temporary USA Address of a friend - in case that might help... thx |

best offer I got was from Progressive. Went to an agent and there is an option for International Driving License holders (you will not find this online)... prizes vary from 75 till 150 dolar something... It's one year minimum. was easy and straight forward... before I went to Farmers Insurance. They also accept International Driving License. Price was +- 200 for 6 months - with less coverage... greetings |

At long last I'm in a position to ship my Wing to the USA for a months ride, coast to coast and I'm in the process of arranging the insurance for me to ride over there.
There are various options for the amount of liability cover ranging from $25K per person and $65K per accident up to $750K per person and $750K per accident. As this is different to how I buy insurance here in UK I was looking for some advice on the level of cover I should be going for. |
I am off to anchorage may 22 and i am waiting on David Grist of HC travel who can get insurance for the us but is waiting for the ok for canada coverage. Otherwise i am going with Fernet insurance of winter park florida who will only insure you with a us address but covers the us and canada and you can cancel the policy at any time and get refunded the unused premium minus a 7% charge. Otherwise try Seguro Gringo who will insure foreign registered bikes in us canada and mexico but only on a third party basis.

Fernet and Progressive Insurance
Like some other people on here I'm looking for insurance to ride my own UK registered bike in the US.
Has anyone had such insurance issued via Fernet/Progressive and if so were you happy with the policy you got? Any problems? |

they've been used for Mexico insurance for a long time iirc, but never knew they did USA / Canada.
