Is it practical for someone in UK to keep a bike in the US?
I’m in the UK and examining the possibility of buying and keeping a bike in the US to visit with my wife 2 or 3 times a year.
Is this even possible without an address in the US? This is likely to start in California but maybe I would want leave it in a different area each trip. Is this a stupid idea? Guy |

Thanks for the reply, I did see the South African guy talking about doing the buy-tour-sell thing, which has similarities but also substantial differences. For examle, would I need a to have a postal address in the US while I was out of the the country (i.e. most of the time)? Guy |
Yes, you need an address for the paperwork to be sent to.
You need to keep current reg on the bike, approx US$100/year. You need minimum coverage insurance. Easily done on a foreign license. If you need any help with any of these items, shoot me a message. |
Should be no problem, I have a spot for storage if you get to Washington State. Best to buy in a state that does not have sales tax, Washington is 8% but very easy to license. Insurance is easy. Any help you need send me a PM.
In about two years I will need storage in England if you know of any good spots also need to know how long temp import is good for in EU countries. Bob:scooter: |

Sales tax
Consider buying your bike in Oregon because it is one of the few states without sales tax.

Nevada does not collect sales tax on private sales either. As stated, you will need an address for the DMV(Dept Of Motor vehicles) to send your registration to, but thats all. You can rent a mailbox at most UPS?/ packa nd ship stores. As for keeping the bike, either find someone who is offering or rent a storage unit. U-Haul is one such operator.
Shoot me an e mail if you want to get more info. ( |
