Trans-Labrador Highway now fully paved
See this article on CBC news for full details:
After more than 40 years and 1,100 km, the Trans-Labrador Highway is finished. Michael |
Well I hate to say it, but I’m a little bit more likely to actually do it now.

I have this trip on my radar. It appears there are still a couple gravel sections on Quebec Route 389:

Even as a 4x4 driver I like to have a tarmac option. We always can leave the tarmac - and looking for an offroad adventure. I did had enough of (very-) bad gravel for my livetime. I love offroad, but driving gravel like showing above - is not what I would call "offroad". You can try so solve it with speed (>100 km/h) and lower air pressure - but you will always too cause wear your vehicle quickly... Surfy |
I've read a few folks on ADVrider who have actually been on that road commenting on this. The consensus was mixed; it makes it a lot easier to ride - but also invites a lot more traffic and visitors, making the experience something lesser.

Trans-Labrador Highway just after opening, 1992. And as much as I miss the rough, un-tamed, earlier version of the highway, I miss the rough, un-tamed, earlier version of myself more. Self-timer photo in the north, a day's walk outside Nain.
