Wheels and Tyres in Vancouver?
 

Hi folks,

My 02 XT600E is now in a crate on its way to Vancouver, with worn out tyres and two very badly banged up wheels.

Is there anywhere in Vancouver where I could get the wheels repaired or buy new ones, and somewhere I can get tyres?

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Canada = bad place to buy spares for yer bike. I found parts prices and tires a ripoff in Canada.

Most BMW dealers asked over $300+ for a rear sized tires for example. :thumbdown:

The only place that had reasonable prices for tires was Blackfoot in Calgary. Apparently they source tires directly and store in huge amounts in their stock (less $$$ per item).

Wheels? One of the very best place on planet Earth for repairing/maintaining/upgrading your spoked wheels is Woodys Wheel Works, but it's in Denver, USA. I'd highly recommend to ship your banged wheels to them, have 'em rebuilt by them and they'll send them back to you. I'll be just few days of wait for you while you take your time off. Overnight shipping works well in US/Canada - fast and reasonable prices. Really amazing knowledge and quality the guys do in Woody's wheel works, they rebult my well abused rear (untrue, dented, lots of broken spokes after South- and Central-America) on R1100GS since I went through Denver and stopped by from their workshop and was truly amazed what they had there, superlaced wheels, self-CNCd hi-tec ultra lightweight hubs etc etc, let alone the biggest selection of spokes I've ever seen - full shelf wall of spokes (including spokes even for all the chinese bikes!) - so I know what these guys are made of - highly recommended and reasonable prices.

For consumable parts (oils, filters, tires etc) - if you can ride, it's just some 50km to get into USA, a bit more to Seattle where parts and labor prices are more reasonable in motorcycle shops/workshops.

'Tis true that Canada in general has high prices for tires and for some spares. The economic explanation given is a bit loose but has something to do with exchange rates, market size, lack of competition, prices set by distributors and other random factors.

If you are keen to save a few bucks, wait until you cross the border. Or better yet, order some online and have them delivered just over the US border and pick them up and change them yourself. If you need suggestions for best sites, etc. drop me a pm and I'll pass along some recommomendations. Cheers.

You could try Western Power Sports in Langley for tires... They often have discounts and may be willing to haggle....

Call up or email the South Sound Honda dealer ahead of time...very inexpensive...and they'll take care of you...

That's where I got tires in the US when I landed in Korea...

There is also a place in Hamilton, ON. Almost near US prices and will ship to Vancouver for $20. If you need an address to have things sent to, you are welcome to use mine - PM me if needed.

Don't even bother purchasing tyres here in Canada as the prices are over the top. I would suggest buying the tyres from a US online store like "Motorcycle Superstore"; Motorcycle Superstore - Motorcycle Accessories and Motorcycle Gear
Have them shipped to a location in the US close to Vancouver for you to pick up. You will save hundreds of dollars.
