A360 Lena Highway - Is it paved?

Hi All

Is the entire A360 (from Never to Nizhny Bestyakh), which connects the main Trans-Siberian Highway to Yakutsk (lack of a bridge to cross into the city notwithstanding) paved?

I want to say that I have read that the entire section is now paved, but I am not sure. Has anyone driven / ridden it this year?

Thanks

EO

Mid summer last year it was about 70% paved.

OK, thanks Bubbla. What were the non-paved bits like? Decent graded dirt or the swampy 'highway to hell' we see on the internet?

I was on this road in 2011, when none of it was paved. Assuming that the currently unpaved bits remain like they were in 2011 (?), it was graded, coarse, rutted gravel.

Horrible road to ride on because of vibrations and dust, but not technically challenging. During all of my travels I have never had a flat tire except on this road, where I had two (over 1200 kilometers of gravel). Also can be dangerous because of the dust--it is difficult to see the trucks in front of you, and passing is rather exciting for the same reason. When I was there one Russian biker had to be evacced out because he ran into the back of a truck because of the dust.

Hopefully someone else can come along with more recent experience, but in the meantime I wanted to pass on my experience.

Thanks Motoreiter. I am in a 4x4 and will be there early October so I hope it will be a bit frozen, which could help with the dust I think.

Cheers

Hi,

did it also last summer. Agree with Bubbla, 70% paved, the rest is good gravel road.

Lot of dust, which makes it difficult when you need to pass trucks.

Otherwise no problem.

Cheers,
Adrian
