Advice on Mongolia trip

Hi All,

This is my first post, let me know if there are any formatting issues!

I am looking for advice on how to do a last minute motorcycle trip through Mongolia. Been looking at some tour operators that cost around $3-4000, wondering if thats worth it to go with a group and have everything set up or if there are alternative ways to approach it, or if anyone knows any groups that organize trips through the area for cheaper, or know of any groups joining that are renting there and can be joined? Please feel free to reach out with any or all advice, definitely green to this type of thing, but want to get started somewhere and off roading through Mongolia has always been a dream!

Thank you in advance for any advice! really excited to join the community!

That doesn't sound too onerous, presumably including bike hire, accommodation, food and guide(s). Of course, you could do it yourself by riding your own bike over there but you'd pay a lot for fuel, food and accommodation on the way (typically $50-100 per day). While that would be an adventure in itself you'd be unsupported if anything went wrong and a long time travelling (an issue for those in work). Fly-ride holidays are quite popular just now and if Mongolia is our must-ride destination it could be a good one for you. Cheaper tours may be available but consider whether they're shorter or appear less reputable.

Welcome to HU!
To my knowledge there are no "groups" of any description for trips through Mongolia. Only tour companies, and there are quite a few, of varying qualities.
As mentioned above, fly-rides are the go - for your first big trip away, a tour is a great start. Pick a reputable company, do your homework on them, and just go.
NEXT trip, you'll either be a guided-tour-forever person, or you're set to go on your own.
Whatever you choose, it will be a great trip - maybe a lot of lessons learned, maybe you just had a great time, whatever! :)

Thanks a lot for the perspective, decided to take your advice and do the group trip. Looking forward to it!

One followup, is there a list of common trips or routes people enjoy somewhere on the site?

Excellent! I'm sure you'll have a great trip!

We don't have a specific listing of routes - started years ago but never got far with it. We now DO have Destinations, or places of interest for countries, which does include routes and roads.
See

https://new.horizonsunlimited.com/destinations

Zoom in on your country of interest, and you can create a downloadable GPX file of places you're interested in!
