alternative Japan-Vladi ferry?
 
Browsing through a used-car magazine in Yakutsk is saw an add for a new RO-RO ferry line between Japan and Vladivostok. My Russian is not good enough to understand all the details, but I took a picture of it anyway: http://radiobaobab.be/assets/etogal/362/sacha079.jpg

It is a RO-RO cargo ship. No mention in the press release about passengers.
Maybe they can cary people too, but I doubt it.
