Thanks for all the waypoints in this thread. Great job! I am sure they will be very helpful for us during our trip from Germany along the silkroad to Mongolia and back thru Russia in 2019...
But you have to admit that it is really quite annoying to search for just one special waypoint in that big single file. So I divided all your waypoints in different csv.files with corresponding bmp.images for Garmin devices. I case you want to download them, just look here. The names of my files and images are in German. In case you want to rename them you have to change both csv and bmp into the same new names and this could be the translations: - Camping = camping :thumbup1: - Einkaufen+Geld = shopping & money - Essen+Trinken = food & drinks - Grenzposten = boarder - Internet = wifi doh - Landmark = landmark :rolleyes2: - Pass = pass :smartass: - Reparatur = bike workshop - Sehenwürdigkeit = point of interest - Tankstelle = gas - Unterkunft = bed - Visumstelle = consulate |
Oh I am loving reading this!
I'm working on the next part of the upgrade of the Horizons Unlimited website and it will all be about waypoints; collecting them, presenting them in a searchable manner and eventually allowing download to your favourite GPS. (Even Garmin which is a right pain to do! :rolleyes2:) Do keep these coming in to the list here. We will look to add them to the lists (so many lists) that we already have. We are building up some categories - I'll post them soon. Rachel |
Out of 59,589 users, no one has responded to your post of the 2nd of September :(. You may want to consider saving yourself a lot of work as there seems to currently be zero interest in this.
Not sure why 'Garmin' is a pain to do but if I can help, do get in touch. |
Sept 2 post? I don't see one.
I am not so sure why it is difficult to use in Garmin. Open the file in Mapsource or basecamp and there are all the waypoints. Delete the ones you don't want, transfer to the GPS and on the road you go. That's all there is to it. |
Your waypoints in different gpx.files
Could be that some guys of you do not need (or want) all the different csv.files I was offering here some days ago because they do not run with Basecamp.
So now you can get the same waypoints as gpx.files working in Garmin devices as well as in Basecamp. To download my Christmas present for you just click here on Santa :santa: ! Merry Christmas, a peaceful new year and ADVs to all of you! |
Ralf,
thanks for your huge effort regarding the way points. It might be very helpful to me. in 2018 I'm traveling (most probably) from Turkey to Ulaanbaatar on the silk road. After a first overview, many POI's are along my way. By the way, I'm still looking for someone who wants to join me. I've been on your web site, very nice. You are going on a long trip in 2019, for a couple of month I think. You are lucky! :-) Unfortunately I've only 5 weeks for my trip. Therefore, the bike will be shipped to Turkey and back from Mongolia to Germany. So I save many time but it will nevertheless become 12,000 km in the end. What a pity, that you only go in 2019. Your experiences would not do any harm. ;-) In 2017 I'm going to Ukraine, Transcarpathia. Only for 10 days. I want to check some changes on my bike. Changes for the long trip I mean. Loskop |
Dear loskop,
thanks a lot for your kind comment about the waypoints and my website. I love to read that from time to time... :innocent: Yeah - 2019 will be our year: families, employers and the best wives on earth already put the trafficlights on green. No chance for any changes... |
Anyone interested in the categorized waypoints in .kml format for importing into Maps.Me? I got them converted....
