Price about 1500€ inside Baikonur it's best to pay with Russian rubles, but most restaurant also take Kazakh tenge. In the Cosmodrom souvenir shop they only accept rubles. It's a tiny shop, but they have stuff like original Russian space food besides tshirts, hats, magnets, etc. but unfortunately no stickers for my bike :( Did you know they have about 14 launch pads there? two per rocket type (with some exceptions) And they had already more than 500 launches since 1955! I'm too lazy to upload or link individual photos, so here's one link to a gallery. |
I will be there as well for the 28th of July launch. I booked a 5 days tour with a guide from Holland, a guy that has been there on plenty for occasions for decades. The tour is pretty expensive, about 2000 euro, but we are only 2 visitors + the guide.
I will come from russian, going through Semey (Semipalatinsk), Karaganda and Jezkhazgan. Does anybody has an idea on the road condition? It's pave or dirt ? |
I've not been in this region of Kazakhstan.
but it's close to Astana where the Expo has been held, so my guess is, that it's paved. |
there were only 5 burans constructed, only 1 finished ready to fly but without life support systems (1.01 buran), 1 almost finished (1.02 buria/pticka), 3 dismounted (2.01 baikal, 2.02, 2.03) soon after the start of construction (2.02 baikal was later reconstructed as exhibition specimen near moscow, 2 were scrapped).
the only (unmanned) flight of buran 1.01 was on 15th nov, 1988. later in 2002 buran 1.01 and the "energia" rocket was destroyed in the roof collapse of the building mik-112 (монтажно-испытательный корпус) aka mzk-112 (монтажно-заправочный корпус). now, after the restoration of the building, there is buran 1.02 inside (aka buria or pticka), the only shuttle possible to fly, and it is the property of kzh now, but on the russian territory of baikonur: https://goo.gl/maps/kne6PSZGCHE2 all the rest are only the test models. and here you have the nearest starts and landings of spacerockets (not only from baikonur; site in polish, but you can find out what's the matter, frequently refreshed): Plan baikonur is a very big complex. it has 2 airfields, more than 1200km of roads, 9 launch complexes, 11 construction sites (including 34 rocket preparation complexes). it could be hard to see all even if there were no security services and it was free to explore. |
