Dunno if I'm describing Zen, but my coping strategy to ride 4000km in a straight line was to plug downloaded current affairs and football podcasts into my ears and disengage brain (Zen like trance? ).

After every day's riding I couldn't remember what happened in between, other than I must have kept an eye out for petrol stations and camels crossing the road, which with the setting sun in the west was a little tricky. I did it and the bike ended up 4000km closer to the Caucasus region, and home, where I wanted it to be.

www.advfactory.com do shipping/freight from/to Europe.

The Russian and Kazakh Steppe (and pretty much anywhere in KZ) and most of Uzbekistan are incredible boring and pointless, imho, to ride. The interesting riding/ culture/ scenery and people is Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, the small Silk road enclaves of Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva (also very Disneylandish and even the riding there is hot, flat and straight), the Altai region of Russia and Mongolia.

Hi Chris, I`m doing a round trip, starting in the uk to Central Asia and back to the UK. I`m doing it in aid of mental helath and addiction charites - www.roadtripmc.com

In an ideal world I would have gone through to Mongolia and to Siberia, but we certainly dont live in an ideal world. I`ve been to Uzbekistan previously on a fly in trip, so know its a bit dull scenery wise, as is Kazakhstan, but its the trip I wish to do.

What border crossings are open?

Are there any updates on the borders of Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia? We're headed that way in a couple of weeks.

Hi Greg
Regarding land borders:

Georgia to Armenia: still not possible as it hasn't been for a long while. Flying in with an eVisa is easy. I didn't think Azerbaijan was worth visiting as a destination. For me it was just for transit. But, tastes do vary.

Armenia to Georgia: No problem. Did it in October '22. Friends did it with their bikes a month or so ago.

Armenia and Azerbaijan are at war. Everything is very closed. Even getting close to the border will get you into bother. I got too close to the Armenian side in 10/22 and had some explaining to do :innocent:doh

Despite what the press may be claiming, currently the Turkey/Armenia border is still closed.

Turkey/Georgia: Open/Easy.

I'm riding my (in Armenia parked) XR from Georgia to Bulgaria, via Turkey from next weekend. Aiming to stick to the dirt on the TET and ounTravela tracks. When are you 2 in the area? Let's stay in touch via FB Messenger :thumbup1:
