Border crossing Uzbekistan to Tajikistan
Hi all. Anyone crossed from Uzbekistan into Tajikistan in the last month or so?? Which border is easiest. Currently in Samarkand. Are all borders open or some restricted. Look forward to info
|
I don't think they are all open. We crossed last year at Buston. A bit of a zig zag route to get there...

We hear some conflicting news re the border near samarkant have been advised to got to the border North of Termiz?? Cheers Fearless |
The one straight across from Samarkand was not open, Buston is north of there, not too far. The one bear Termez may be possible as well but it was more out of the way for us.

The one north of Temiz is fine and the road getting there is good also. I think I worked out the mileage to Dushanbe to be shorter on the southern crossing, I cant remember my reasoning. Buston to the north is also open.
The most direct one you refer to is Pajikent. This is closed, has been for some time. G |
I had my friend, kazakstan biker from Borovoe yeasterday sleeping on my place as he was on his way to Europe and he told that currently Uzbekistan has closed entry of motorcycles or made it really hard to enter. That you have to sign several wavers saying you take all responsibility etc and that they wouldnt let bikes into country coming from direction of Pamir.
I had my russian friend who joined us for some finnish sauna (banja) confirming this that i understood correctly as my russian is not so good and it seemed to be pretty much so as i understood. Now i dont know if this is 100% certain information but has anyone recently, like past weeks crossed Uzbek borders and expecially coming from Tadjiskistan? I know Noah passed one or two months ago. |

When you say they 'signed waivers taking all responsibility' are you talking about a temporary import document? Where you have to export the bike when you leave etc. I cant imagine what other responsibilities they can put on you! The Uzbek government are an odd bunch though so anything is possible G |

Yes okay but what border crossing did you use to get into Tajikistan? In our case it took 24 hours to enter Uzbekistan from Kazakhstan (near Chinoz)as they demanded a 400USD fee to enter Uzbekistan with a truck?? We refused to pay thinking this was BS. Hence it became a overnight stay at the border. It appears that since 3 or 4 weeks rules have changed and any vehicle from the EU over 9000KG has to pay this fee??? True or not who knows but we did get a official receipt and a visit for the Chief and Head of Police? Anyway that is the bad news the good news is when you leave the border the people are great.
