British Biker dies in Kazakhstan
 

Heard thru the grapevine that a UK biker recently died after ploughing into a cow near Aktyubinsk (Aktube).

Anyone know who it was?

Note... for anyone who hasnt ridden in this part of the world, there are no fences. Animals (cows, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens) roam all over the road.

Motorcyclist killed, citizen of the UK, from a collision with a cow in the Aktobe region, the press service of the department of internal affairs of the region, reports Novosti-Kazakhstan news agency.

On Saturday, July 7 this year at 19.10 hours the police reported that on the M32 highway, near the village of Miyaly Aytekebiyskogo district, 150 kilometers from the village of Komsomolsk, the driver of the motorcycle "Adventure" - 36 year old British citizen - collided with a cow crossing the roadway. As a result of an accident, the motorcyclist died at the scene.

The man entered Kazakhstan on July 5 through the border post "Kurmangazy" in the Atyrau region.

A forensic examination and auto-technical investigation are underway.

Very sad news.

Yes indeed. A big reminder to take it easy, the cattle (and other livestock) on Central Asian roads are pretty tame and predicable (by Australian standards anyway) but taking them granted would be a mistake.

That is tragic news Cole, I've checked with all the people I know travelling through and they are safe, but don't know who it is either.
As always, my thoughts are with his family and also anyone he may have been travelling with.

Applies anywhere in the world for unfenced roads AND you can take similar care about such animals as deer leaping fences and ending up under your wheels (the fencing gives you a false sense of security) - fortunately I have only experienced that while on 4 wheels, but sheep running straight into a front wheel, or pheasants flying into the same, is a constant hazard on UK roads.

I feel for the animals which do not have the brains that humans are supposed to have developed, and that is no disrespect at all to whoever it was who has now departed this world. RIP.

Presumably he was living his dream and totally happy to be doing so - until the last 3 or 4 seconds.

There are many worse ways to go and I think I would prefer his fate to them.

The agony was not his, but is for those he left behind.


But strangely chickens, with brains smaller than a bean, seemingly understand traffic and happily peck away at the sides of roads but never on them.
Crows also understand they are safe on motorway hard shoulders and not to cross the white line.

The Biker was Sid (David) Rayner from Yorkshire, a very close friend of mine. He will be greatly missed.

He was living his dream, and was also doing it for a cause he believed in.
