Buy a vehicle in Central Asia and register in under your name
Hello,
is it possible to buy a car/motorbike in Kazakhstan/Kyrgyzstan and register it under your name with a tourist visa? I need to register it under my name to get the Carnet de Passage and driving back home. Thanks |
Kyrgyzstan
I have a van reg. in my name but I have a business visa and still I can on get it reg. for the length of my visa. I have two motorcycles that are in my name free and clear. With a tourist visa I don't think it is possible here. Can you not do everything with a power of attorney? That is how some have brought bikes and cars from Europe to here.

Burocratic stuff aside, there isn't exactly a massive selection of bikes available in central Asia, and those you find tend to be hugely overpriced. In agricultural areas you'll find markets where you might still be able to find some used and abused soviet era bikes, which probably spent their lives being used as tractors. Not sure if you'd really wish to travel far on one of those.
Good luck, also with your Royal Enfield in your other thread. by the way, some more information might be useful ? where exactly is "home", and why do you need a carnet? A. |
Donmanolo and mac1769,
thanks for your reply. Home is Spain and I need the carnet to drive through several countries, in particular Iran and Pakistan. The initial plan was to get a Royal Enfield in Katmandu o an Ural in Kazakhastan/Kyrgy and drive it to Spain. However, now seems that a friend could join me, so I am looking at getting car/van instead. In any case we would like to get a classic. Last year I was in Kyrgyzstan and I saw some old soviet cars (Niva, a vaz, uaz) at a good price. The problem is always the same, I need the car registered under my name to get the carnet de passage... THanks |
