Buying a bike in China, possible?
 

Hello all! Im currently in Indonesia and wanted to somehow drive a bike from SEA to Mongolia, maybe starting in Vietnam, but I know its nearly impossible to get a bike into China. So I had the idea of buying a bike in China to drive to Mongolia.

Anyone have any info about whether that is possible in China?

Everything is possible in China. You just need the right connection. The problem with china is that you can't find much even online as they don't allow google search engine. Now I don't have any experience in travelling in China but if I had planned a tour there then I would definitely search for a bike for travellers in Baidu.com - thats the replacement of Google in mainland china.

Believe it or not but China has official motorbike importers, import / domestic bike distributors and dealerships of all sorts like most other countries. With the right visa, permits, license, etc. and a rather good lump of $$$'s on hand ~ should get you on the roads around the diverse and fascinating country fully legal and no need to look over the shoulders every minute....

i still have a jialing 600 chinese registered motorbike available in shanghai. it's 5 years old and 25k on the oddo.
it's a very reliable machine for crossing the country.
