Just a note to say that we went with Chinzo and he couldn't have been more helpful. Completely recommend him for anyone wanting to hire a decent bike in UB.

I'd like to buy a bike in Mongolia and ride it towards Europe this September. Has anyone been able to purchase a bike and cross borders?

You'll have to make sure the bike has papers etc or you'll not be able to export it...
There are a few bikes available for sale as mentioned above...

If the bike has all current paperwork and I get a power of attorney will that be sufficient to cross borders? Are POAs respected amongst most countries? Is it even possible to get a proper POA from a notary agency in UB? I'll be in Mongolia on a service trip this May and then back in September to start my motorcycle trip to Europe. If I feel confident that I can cross borders on a Mongolian bike then I'll try to buy a bike next month and stash it until September.
