Crossing Georgia to Russia
 

In west Turkey at present, planning to do this in around a week's time.

But someone back home (UK), who's doing the Mongol Rally soon, has alerted me to a news item on Thursday about IS declaring something in the Caucasus, which from what I've read since, shouldn't be taken too seriously.

But it did get me looking at border crossing points, GEO > RUS. What options are there, or is there only the one? And any problems? According to the FCO, there aren't 'green' areas on adjacent sides. Not that I've ever taken their advice before, which is why I'm asking a more respected source!

I had planned cross the Black Sea and go to Russia from Georgia by military highway. I take the ferry from Varna to Batumi 11 July. Does anyone have news about that border crossing?

Ive crossed GEO-RU at Kazbegi, on the GEO military highway. As far as I know, its the only open border.
good road, (now) spectacular scenery!

I have not heard of any problems at the border

Doug, according to a friend from russia, you are right it's only by the road at Kazbegi, that you could cross the border.

I'm actually in Batumi, plan to leave tomorrow to Tbilisi. After going north to Russia, trying to be in Vladivostok on July 14th.

I'm at a little place called solo lucky. . I'll send you the sat nav coordinates . . I'm with IanC . . If arrived today. . I think solo lucky should have room, I'll ask for you . . It's basic but ok. . Plenty of places . . Head for the old town on the east of the city. . . Near the freedom square. . (St George statue) lots of places. . . . .

Hi. . If you're not in too much of a rush head for the northern border via Lagodekhi. . There's a place called "bio yard" that is great place to stay overnight just 3km away from the border with Azerbaijan . . . Assuming thats the way you are going

Georgia is great . . Just mad traffic in Tbilisi
