Finally, A Bike for Mongolia
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-W...110_123334.jpg
Wednesday I will buy the first ever Yamaha AG200E sold in Mongolia by the brand new Yamaha Motors in Ulaanbaatar. Their showroom is under construction! It was a lot of fun to find them. They have a couple of display bikes which I imagine will be pointless here for at least 5 years, since there are barely any roads good enough to support em. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-x...110_124808.jpg Any thoughts and especially experiences, on the Yamaha AG200E would be much appreciated. Best from Ulaanbaatar, Peter |
There are a lot of heavy choppers in Ulaanbaatar.
owned by a motorcycle club  |
Nice, Pete. Enjoy.
|
I really like the look of this bike.
If you would be so kind as to tell us how much they cost new (inclusive of any fee's) would be much appreciated. Makes me want to fly to UB just so i can buy one and ride it home... |
Around $aud5,500 here ...
electric start (E model) with kick backup, as well as dual side stands, clutch lock, front and rear carry racks ... 10litre tank. |
2013 ag200e
Donuk,
This is the 1st ever AG200E to be sold new by Yamaha in Mongolia. A Sales Manager in Japan gave it to the still-under-construction Yamaha Motors in Ulaanbaatar. There is only one here, and I got it for 5.6 million MNT (around $3400 USD) Cheers, Pete |
I had to look up this one... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_AG200 Looks like you got yourself a workhorse. I´d get myself a green helmet with a John Deere logo.... :mchappy:
Just kiddin´.. Looks like the right bike for Mongolia and Siberia, congrats. Cheers Chris |
Buying and Renting in Mongolia
Hi Pete,
I'm going to be arriving in Mongolia in late May early June this year. I am trying to secure a bike before this. Is this Yamaha Motors store up an running yet? Is there any way to contact them from the states? I saw on a couple other Mongolia threads that you are living in UB . If you have any other useful information concerning buying, renting, or whatever, I would love to hear it! :) Thanks! Jane |
Hi Janeo_T,
There are a number of bike shops here now. there's one selling a bunch of second hand ones, and one selling new and used KTMs (Stormriders). there is ashop up near Hermes (not sure what they have) and this Yamaha one I don't recognise. I have a bmw 650 GS (2 actually) and a KTM and a Chinese bike. The KTM was ex hire bike from a tour company. BMWs from Germany, though I have friends who have BMWs here from bother Germany and USA. depending on what I am doing will decide what bike I ride. what will you be doing; long tours or just zipping around town? PM me if you want some more info. Are you here in UB for a holiday or for work/relocating? btw I have videoed and posted my rides on youtube, some with music and some not. Look up Rabidwombatz. not sure if we are allowed to post links but I will do the latest one anyway (last weekend, minus 37 degrees): Last Stop Before Heaven - Ulaanbaatar minus 37 Zaisan to Faith Baptist Church Mongolia BMW 650 GS - YouTube Petal, you look familiar to me, but I am not sure where... |
Hello Crux!
This is great information. Thank you for the response. My boyfriend and I are looking to do some offroading and site seeing all around the country during the months of June and July. I only need one bike and I'm looking for a lighter dual sport. What kind of KTM do you have? Would you be interested in potentially renting it out? What are the prices like in these shops you mentioned? I can't PM from my computer yet because I haven't posted more than 5 times. Thanks!! Jane |
Hi,
My KTM is a 450 EXC, 2009. it cost me $5500, but I did buy it mid winter, before the season. it's likely possible to do the same now, and sell it later on. Re dual sport....I'm not sure how good it would be for trips of more than a few hours. see what others think. the ride is quite harsh, and no space to store anything at all. it's great off road though. Re renting, I will think about it. But I would be worried about it breaking, because the timing chain is kinda rattly. Next time I visit stormriders I will ask if they rent bikes. I think they do. The phone number of you want to SMS dashka there is:+976 9919 7752 or +976 8666 6688. however he seems never to answer my SMSs so I wouldn't be hopeful. I will try to get my Mongolian assistant to call him and see if he does, and get back to you. A couple of guys here rented some 250 cc yamahas for a few hundred a month I think, but that was for a year. Oasis might rent bikes, not sure. Here are a couple of vids from when we rode to the national park. Let me know if they work or not, s the music seems to freak youtube out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX2RoyURwh0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPE0asTGMGw no music, KTM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YB32XKF5G1s for reasons unknown this one is really popular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSkHdga7rsc only a couple more posts and you can PM me. |
Awesome! Thanks again for all of the info.
|
And now I can PM.
|
Cool.
I have not found info on bikes available yet, but I have not forgotten. It snowed on the weekend, which slowed me down a bit, and prior to that had the boss visiting for a while. A friend has a ktm 250 exc I think, and she might be interested in selling or renting it out. Meanwhile I will take a trip up to the bike shops soon and see what they have. |
Crux,
Thanks for the response. I was wondering if you received my PMs. I am interested in your friend's bike. If she is willing to rent it, could you give me some information about its condition so I can plan out what spare parts Ill need? Thanks, Jane Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 |
